Mark Twain nailed it when he said, “I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”
Isn’t that so true?
Sometimes we worry and worry and the thing we worried about never even happens.
And even when it does the worrying didn’t even help because it happened anyway!
We all do it, worry. And it never helps.
I’m not talking about considering a situation and planning a response or taking preventative measures. That’s wise.
I’m talking about the stewing, spinning around in your mind, endless hours talking about it to anyone who will listen.
That is not helping, in fact it’s hurting. It’s hurting you. Your health, your stress, your blood pressure, your relationships, your faith.
Worrying “what if?”…robs us of the present. It robs us of peace.
So what do we do?
The next time your brain wants to run away with worry tell it no! And answer the “What if?” your brain is posing. You see, the worry is in the unanswered question. So answer it. The answer is rarely as bad as the fear. And answering it helps your brain stop worrying about it.
Answer it, give it to God and move on.
If whatever it is happens, you’ll handle it, you always do.
Practice this and train your brain and over time you will worry, stew and ruminate less and less.
